What to do after Magnolia blooms

What to do after Magnolia blooms

1. Specific period

This plant mainly blooms around March, but the flowers last for a short time, usually only about ten to fifteen days. Therefore, after it blooms, it is necessary to adjust various factors in time to promote its subsequent growth.

2. Specific practices

(1) Pruning: After the plant blooms, most of the flowers fall off. However, some of the withered flowers will remain on the branches. These withered flowers greatly affect the ornamental value of the plant and also consume some nutrients. So, we should cut them off first. In addition, those flower branches that are dead or diseased also need to be cut off. If you consider its shape, you can cut off the ones that are too long. However, after pruning, you need to be careful to keep the wound dry and avoid getting it exposed to rain. Remember to ventilate on time and replenish fresh air. In addition, when watering, do not splash water on the wound. Also, after pruning, you can also use some fermented organic fertilizers such as bean cake. This way, the plants will grow more vigorously in the future.

(2) Top dressing: Some people think that it is sufficient to ensure the supply of nutrients during flowering. After it blooms, you don't need to care about it anymore. In fact, this is not true. Because it consumes a lot of nutrients when it blooms. Therefore, in order to ensure normal growth in the future, top dressing must be done. After flowering, it is best to apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

(3) Prevention and control of diseases and pests: Generally speaking, plants are easily troubled by diseases and pests after flowering. The same is true for this plant. Therefore, after flowering, we must actively prevent diseases and pests, rather than waiting until they occur before thinking about remedial measures.
