How to propagate petunia by cuttings

How to propagate petunia by cuttings

1. Time selection

If it is grown indoors, then any time of the year is fine. However, in general, the survival rate will be higher in spring and autumn. Because the winter is too cold and the summer is too high, both are not conducive to reproduction.

2. Choice of substrate

If you want to increase your success rate, this step is very important and should not be ignored. We can mix sawdust and garden soil in a ratio of one to two. Once combined, stir thoroughly. After that, add some cow dung as base fertilizer, but not too much, just about the same as sawdust will be fine. We can also use sandy soil and peat soil, mixing half of each evenly. In addition, you can mix in some perlite to make it water-permeable.

3. Container selection

Because it is an herbaceous plant, it does not grow too tall. Then, there is no need to choose a container that is too large. A diameter of fifteen to twenty centimeters will be enough.

4. Material selection

You cannot choose branches that are too old, that's for sure. It is best to choose branches that are healthy and free of disease and insect pests. After cutting, let the wound dry. In addition, the flowers need to be picked off. Some of the leaves also need to be removed, leaving one third.

5. Management of cuttings

Place the substrate into the pot and make a small hole in the middle. The depth is two to three centimeters. Then, insert the treated branches into the hole. Afterwards, compact the surrounding soil. Afterwards, water it adequately. Also, keep the sun in diffused light. Then there is the temperature, which should be controlled between 18 and 20 degrees.

6. Post-processing

After waiting for about half a month to twenty days, we can observe the rooting phenomenon. If there is no sign of withering or rotting, it is a success.
