How to grow Monstera

How to grow Monstera

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: Monstera prefers loose and well-drained soil, which can be mixed with garden soil, leaf mold and river sand.

2. Light: It likes diffuse light and cannot be exposed to strong direct sunlight. Too strong light will burn the leaves, and insufficient light will make the leaf color fade. In summer, it is best to place it near the north window. In winter, it needs sufficient sunlight, preferably near the south window.

3. Temperature: The suitable temperature for the growth of Monstera is 20-25℃. The minimum temperature in winter cannot be lower than 5℃. If the temperature is too low, the leaves will turn yellow. If the indoor temperature is low, take some warming measures.

4. Water: Monstera likes a humid environment. It is best to spray water on the leaves or around them frequently in summer to make the leaves more colorful. It should not be watered frequently in winter, otherwise black spots or even rot will appear.

2. Breeding Methods

1. Seeding propagation: Collect the seeds, soak the fuller seeds in warm water for about 10 hours. The soil should be disinfected in advance. After sowing the seeds, the temperature should be controlled at 20-25℃. Cover with a film to keep it moist. It will take about a month for them to germinate. After the small leaves grow, they can be planted in pots.

2. Cutting propagation: Choose healthy side branches with a length of 20-25 cm, leave the small leaves on the top, and then insert the branches into the soil. Control the temperature at 25-27℃, and it will take root in about 1 month.

3. Common pests and diseases

Its common diseases and pests include gray spot disease and scale insects, which can be killed by spraying with omethoate emulsion. Once discovered, the pests should be removed in time and the diseased leaves should be cut off. Thiophanate can be sprayed.
