How to grow peony in summer

1. Reasonable shading

Although peonies like sunlight, they cannot be exposed to direct sunlight. When the sunlight is strong in summer, they need to be properly shaded, otherwise the leaves of the plant will turn yellow. Potted plants can be placed on the east-facing balcony. If placed on the south-facing balcony, shade measures should also be taken.

2. Proper watering

In summer, you can water the peonies every 5-7 days depending on the situation. Avoid watering at noon. It is best to water them in the morning or evening. During the maintenance process, the soil should be kept moist. The potting soil should not be too dry nor should water accumulate.

3. Scientific fertilization

Half a month after the flowers have withered, you should apply compound fertilizer, mainly phosphorus fertilizer, or you can apply fermented farmyard manure. Be careful not to apply too much fertilizer, and don't apply raw fertilizer, which is very detrimental to its growth.

4. Disease prevention and control

The temperature is relatively high and it is very hot and humid in summer, and diseases are most likely to occur at this time. Common diseases include brown spot, gray mold, anthracnose, etc. When you find that the plants are damaged, you should spray them with appropriate pesticides as soon as possible for prevention and control. During the maintenance process, open the windows appropriately for ventilation and do not let the plants grow in an overly stuffy environment.
