When to plant dahlias

When to plant dahlias

1. Planting time

The approximate planting time is when other vegetables start to be planted in the same year, which is the best season to plant it, that is, spring is the best time to plant it.

2. Planting requirements

1. Suitable temperature

It prefers cool weather, so it does not have high requirements for temperature. It can usually grow well between 5 and 35 degrees and has a very strong adaptability, but the best temperature is between 10 and 25 degrees. In addition, if the temperature exceeds 30 degrees, it will enter a dormant state. When the temperature is below 0 degrees, its branches will wither. At this time, the tubers can be dug out and buried in the sand and planted again next year.

2. Suitable growth environment

It likes light very much, so you need to choose a place with long sunlight hours for planting. At the same time, it is not drought-tolerant and is afraid of moisture. In the south, there is always a lot of rain, so when choosing to plant it, you must choose loose, well-drained sandy soil.

3. Planting method

1. Planting by division

If you plant it by division, you must first take out its tuberous roots in March or April each year, then separate the roots, and each root must have 2 to 4 terminal buds, otherwise new plants will not be able to grow. Then apply wood ash on the root division to help the wound heal. Finally plant it and water it. Small sprouts will grow in about a week.

2. Cutting planting

First, find the removed side branches and leave at least three nodes on the branches. When cuttings, leave two nodes underground and the other node on the ground. At the same time, make sure the soil and air humidity are moist after cuttings so that it can take root as soon as possible.

3. Seed planting

After harvesting the seeds in autumn every year, you can choose to sow them in March or April of the following year. Cover them with a thin layer of soil after planting, and then water them. Small sprouts will grow in about a week. At this time, you must prevent strong light exposure.
