How to grow hydrangea

How to grow hydrangea

1. Soil

The cultivation of hydrangeas requires that the soil must be loose, water-retaining, permeable, fertile and moderately slightly acidic to facilitate their growth.

2. Water

Hydrangeas have very high requirements for water and require the surrounding air humidity to be relatively high, because their leaves evaporate a lot. If the humidity is low, the flowers cannot guarantee normal growth.

3. Light

Hydrangeas require bright diffuse light for maintenance. It is best not to place them in a full-light environment, but also not in a completely shaded environment. Ensuring 3 to 6 hours of light per day can maintain its normal growth.

4. Temperature

Hydrangeas do not have high temperature requirements and can overwinter normally on land in many places in the country. The most suitable temperature is between 18 and 28 degrees. It should not be lower than 5 degrees in winter. Around 20 degrees can promote flowering.

5. Pruning

When caring for hydrangeas, one must pay special attention to the pruning time. The two most common varieties on the market are Hydrangea macrophylla and Endless Summer. The flower buds of Endless Summer can differentiate multiple times, so the pruning time is not very sensitive. However, pruning of large-flowered hydrangeas must be completed in early to mid-August, as this is the time for flower bud differentiation. If pruning is delayed until after the leaves fall, the flower buds are actually cut off, which will reduce the number of flowers in the later period.
