How to grow Begonia

How to grow Begonia

1. Soil

When caring for Begonia, you first need to prepare suitable soil for it. The root system of Begonia is relatively slender and weak, so the soil for Begonia should be loose, fertile, well-drained, have a certain fertilizer retention capacity, and be slightly acidic. Therefore, during the maintenance process, we can use leaf mold plus sand or peat plus perlite for cultivation.

2. Lighting

Begonia is not very demanding on light, it only requires bright light and can be cultivated in full sun except in summer.

3. Watering

When watering Begonia, the soil in the pot should be kept moist and the water storage capacity should be relatively large, but it must be ensured that water does not accumulate, as this will cause root rot.

4. Fertilization

Begonia needs to be regularly supplemented with some dilute fertilizer and water. It is generally recommended to apply dilute fertilizer and water with relatively complete nutrients once a week.

5. Notes

Begonia can withstand temperatures as low as 5 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is lower than this, it needs to go indoors to overwinter normally. During the growth process of Begonia, we can moderately prune its inner branches and leaves. Pruning doesn't need to be too interventionist. We should pay attention to the occurrence of diseases and pests. If there are leaf-eating pests and leaf diseases, we should observe them at any time and clean up the diseased and infested parts in time to control their occurrence.
