How to cultivate Christmas cactus seedlings

How to cultivate Christmas cactus seedlings

1. Common breeding methods

Cuttings are often used as the main method of propagation for Christmas cactus. Leaves are mostly used as materials because its root system is not very developed and the chance of survival is low if the roots are used. The sowing method is less common because it takes a long time, up to three years to grow. Therefore, if you do not want to cultivate new varieties, this method is generally not used. When growing seedlings using the cutting method, you need to pay attention to their subsequent cultivation.

2. How to cultivate

1. Suitable substrate: Pay attention when choosing the substrate before cutting. Its root system is not well developed, and if the substrate is not good, it will easily die. You should choose a loose, breathable substrate. For example, you can mix it yourself using leaf mold, peat soil, river sand and other materials. This will be more breathable, allowing the plants to breathe more easily and grow better.

2. Appropriate amount of water: After cuttings, water once and make sure it is watered thoroughly. However, water should not accumulate, as young seedlings are most afraid of waterlogging.

3. Adequate light: It is a short-day plant. It is best for young seedlings to receive four to five hours of sunlight a day. Place it in a bright, diffused light location, it will grow very well and adapt to the environment quickly.
