When and how to repot Milan

When and how to repot Milan

Milan is named after its fragrance. It is a very popular ornamental plant. The flowers are small, dense, yellow, and have a strong fragrance, which is especially obvious at night, so it is also known as " night-blooming jasmine ". When raising Milan, you must pay attention to repotting. The following editor will introduce the time and method of repotting Milan. Let’s take a look.

1. Milan repotting time

The best time to repot Milan is usually in spring and autumn, when the temperatures are moderate, which is conducive to the growth and recovery of Milan. Specifically, spring repotting can be done between March and May, when Milan is in its peak growth season. After repotting, it can quickly adapt to the new environment and promote the growth of new roots. Autumn repotting can be done between September and November. At this time, the growth rate of Milan slows down and the impact of repotting on its growth is relatively small. It is necessary to avoid repotting during the high temperatures in summer and low temperatures in winter, because Milan's resistance to stress is poor in these two seasons, and repotting can easily affect its normal growth.

2. Milan repotting method

1. Prepare the soil

Choose a new pot that is slightly larger to ensure there is enough room for the Milan's roots to grow. The material of the new pot can be a ceramic pot or a plastic pot with good air permeability. Prepare soil suitable for the growth of Milan. Milan likes acidic soil. You can choose a culture soil mainly composed of leaf mold, and add an appropriate amount of perlite or vermiculite to improve the soil's air permeability and drainage.

2. Remove the basin and clean it

Before repotting, stop watering for a day or two to allow the soil to dry out a little to make it easier to remove the plant from the pot. Take the Milan out of its original pot and gently tap the sides of the pot to separate it from the pot. Be careful not to use too much force to avoid damaging the roots of the Milan. Clean away old soil and dead leaves clinging to the roots of the Milan.

3. Prune the roots

Use sterilized scissors to trim off the yellowed, rotten parts of the Milan roots and the excessively long roots. After pruning, the roots should appear white or light yellow and have a certain degree of elasticity. After pruning, soak the roots of Milan in potassium permanganate solution or methyl thiophanate solution for a period of time for disinfection.

4. Watering the plants

Place a drainage layer, such as gauze, expanded clay, etc., at the bottom of the new pot, and then add an appropriate amount of soil. Place the processed Milan into a new pot and fill the roots of the Milan with new soil. Be careful not to fill it too tightly so as not to affect the breathing of the Milan. Lightly compact the soil with your hands to firmly combine the Milan with the new soil. After potting, water thoroughly for the first time to allow the soil to fully absorb water. After that, water it in time according to the growth of Milan to keep the soil moist.

5. Maintenance points

After repotting, place Milan in a cool and ventilated place for a period of time, avoiding direct sunlight and exposure. Gradually restore light and fertilization to promote the growth and flowering of Milan. Check the growth of Milan regularly and deal with any problems such as diseases and pests in a timely manner.

The above is the time and method of repotting Milan. Milan grows very fast and generally needs to be repotted every one or two years to ensure that it has enough growth space and nutrients. During the repotting process, try to avoid damaging the roots of Milan to avoid affecting its growth and recovery.
