Peony Growth Conditions

Peonies require deep, loose, well-drained sandy loam. Neutral or slightly acidic soil is best. Peonies can only grow lush and brightly colored if there is sufficient sunlight during the growing season. However, if there is too much shade, the plant will grow too tall, become weak, and fail to bloom.

How to grow peony

When growing peonies, you need to control the fertilization, generally three times a year is enough, and it should be applied when new buds, new leaves and flowers grow. To make it healthier and better looking, it needs to be shaped, that is, branches are pruned, etc. Of course, the flowers should also be pruned if they are withered, otherwise the nutrients may be consumed.

Watering Peonies

When watering peonies, just water them thoroughly when they are completely dry. Before watering, loosen the soil first and seal all cracks. Water them in several times and observe the small holes under the flowerpot. If water flows out, it means it has been watered thoroughly.

Peony Fertilization

Peonies generally need additional fertilizer four times a year, once in March, twice from May to July, and once from November to December. Through reasonable fertilization, as long as the nutrients can keep up, there will be good ornamental effects.

Peony pest control

Pay attention to white rot when planting peony. Cut off the diseased plants immediately after the disease occurs and spray carbendazim solution regularly. Rust may occur and it is difficult to eradicate it in one go. You can use Zineb or lime sulfur mixture to spray continuously for 3 to 4 times.

How to grow peony at home

1. Watering: You don’t need to water the peony too much at ordinary times. You should observe the condition of the plant in advance, and then add water appropriately according to these conditions. Just keep the soil in the pot moist.

2. Light: Peony likes light, so it must be given sufficient light every day, otherwise it will cause the flowering period to be delayed, or more seriously, it will not bloom.

3. Soil: Home cultivation of peonies requires a medium with sufficient fertility. Since there are many flowers, more nutrients are consumed, so be sure to choose one that is relatively loose, breathable, and well-drained.

Precautions for peony maintenance

1. Peony roots go deep into the soil and can absorb moisture from deep soil. Therefore, even if the surface soil in the pot is dry, you don’t need to water it yet. However, if the soil is too dry, it will affect its normal growth, such as dull color, small and few flowers, etc.

2. During the maintenance of peony, you need to pay attention to watering it in time before and after its flowering period and before winter. Sufficient moisture must be ensured, but water cannot accumulate. Water it once before covering the soil in winter.
