The growth process of cabbage can be divided into the vegetative growth period and the reproductive growth period. The first growth period is from sowing to leaf and bulb harvesting, called the vegetative growth period, and the second growth period is from bolting and flowering to seed maturation, called the reproductive growth period. Cabbage growing periodThe growing period of cabbage is about 55 days, and cabbage can be divided into summer cabbage and autumn cabbage. Summer cabbage is generally planted in May and June and harvested in August and September. Autumn cabbage is mostly sown in early to mid-September and matures and is harvested in November and December. Cabbage growing conditions1. Soil: The most important growth condition for cabbage is the soil environment. The soil for growth is required to be fertile and loose, with strong fertilizer and water retention capacity and good drainage, so that the cabbage can grow better. 2. Temperature: Cabbage seeds can generally germinate at 8-10 degrees Celsius, and the suitable temperature during the growth period is 10-22 degrees. The temperature during the rosette stage of cabbage should be controlled at 17℃-22℃, and the temperature during the heading stage should be controlled at 12℃-18℃. 3. Light: Cabbage needs sufficient light to grow, and the length of daylight also affects the heading. Short daylight promotes upright leaves, but due to the reduced assimilation, the leaves are weak and elongated. Cabbage growth managementDuring the growing period of cabbage, attention should be paid to topdressing management. When it is in the rosette stage and heading stage, compound fertilizer containing phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen should be applied. It is also necessary to spray foliar fertilizer every 7-10 days, a total of 2-3 sprayings will be enough. Note that fertilization needs to be stopped 20 days before harvesting the cabbage. |
