Environmental conditions and characteristics of litchi growth

Litchi growth environment conditions and requirements

Lychees grow on lychee trees, which are native to the southern tropical region. They prefer a high temperature, high humidity and sufficient light growing environment. They have high temperature requirements and are a long-day sun-loving plant.

Lychee growth temperature

Litchi is a subtropical fruit with the most suitable growing temperature of 25°C. The plant has high requirements for temperature, but a low temperature environment must also be maintained in winter to facilitate the differentiation of flower buds of the litchi tree.

Lychee growth humidity

Litchi prefers a humid climate environment. Except for the flowering period, the plant’s water demand is relatively large. The annual rainfall in the planting area must be above 1,200 mm, but water accumulation in the soil is also prohibited.

Lychee growing soil

Litchi does not have high requirements for soil and can grow well even in poor and arid hilly red soil, but it is best to plant it on alluvial soil or sandy soil by the river.

Lychee growth cycle and process

The growth of litchi goes through three stages: branch and leaf growth and development, flower bud differentiation, and fruit growth and development. Generally, 5-10 years after planting, the plants begin to transition from the vegetative growth stage to the reproductive growth stage. Generally, trees will have a peak fruit-bearing period of about 17 years, during which time the growth rate of the plants slows down.
