How to grow cyclamen and what to pay attention to

Cyclamen growth habits

Cyclamen likes warmth and is afraid of heat. It likes to grow in a cool environment. In addition, it is relatively cold-resistant and can withstand temperatures as low as 0°C. It is suitable for growing in fertile sandy soil rich in humus.

The growing season of cyclamen is from autumn to the following spring. It is semi-dormant in summer and the suitable growing temperature in winter is between 12-16℃. To promote flowering, the temperature should not exceed 18-22℃.

Cyclamen light requirements

Cyclamen has very high requirements for light. When caring for it, you must ensure that there is sufficient diffuse light, which will enable it to grow vigorously. If there is insufficient light, it will easily grow excessively and will also affect flowering. In addition, the hot sun in summer must be avoided, otherwise it will easily get sunburned.

Cyclamen growth temperature

The best temperature for cyclamen growth is 15~20℃. Plants above 35℃ are prone to rot and die. It can tolerate low temperatures in winter, but grows slowly below 5℃, has dark flower colors, and blooms less.

Cyclamen cultivation method

1. Soil

When growing cyclamen, you must ensure that the soil is breathable, loose, well-drained, and neutral. This soil environment is more conducive to growth, and later management is also more convenient and worry-free.

2. Light

Cyclamen should usually be placed in a sunny place for maintenance, especially when the temperature is below 28 degrees, light is more important. However, the stronger the light is, the better, and you need to pay attention to shading in summer.

3. Watering

Cyclamen likes moisture, but is also afraid of moisture. If there is too much water, the roots will rot and die in severe cases. Therefore, when watering, just keep the soil moist and avoid water accumulation.

4. Fertilization

During the growth period of cyclamen, appropriate fertilizer should be applied, and potassium dihydrogen phosphate can be added, but be careful not to apply nitrogen fertilizer during the flowering period, otherwise the branches and leaves will grow too fast and the flowering period will be shortened.

Watering Cyclamen

Cyclamen has a relatively large demand for water, and the watering methods in different seasons are also different. Spring and autumn are the main growing seasons, and it should be watered once every one or two days. The demand is very little in summer and winter, and the best time to water is in the morning or evening.

Fertilizing Cyclamen

Cyclamen can be fertilized with special fertilizers, urea, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, and full-element nutrient solution. Special fertilizers are designed according to the growth characteristics of the plant to meet the nutrient needs. Urea contains a large amount of nitrogen, which can make the plant grow more luxuriantly. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate can supplement phosphorus for the plant and make the plant bloom more flowers.

Cyclamen cuttings

When propagating cyclamen by cuttings, soak the cut branches in rooting water for half a day, choose loose and nutritious soil, put about one-third of the soil in the pot, insert the rhizome, and finally water it.

Cyclamen maintenance precautions

1. Pests and diseases: If the environment is not suitable during the management of cyclamen, it is easy to be infected by pests and diseases. When discovered, measures must be taken to treat it, change the maintenance method, ventilate more, and avoid a stuffy environment.

2. Repotting: Cyclamen needs to be disinfected when using a new pot. Generally, it is done around Qingming Festival. After repotting, apply fertilizer appropriately. After changing the pot, place it in an environment of 15 degrees for maintenance.
