Poplar growth environment conditions and characteristics

Poplar growth environment conditions and requirements

Poplar, also known as white willow, mainly grows in temperate and cold temperate regions. It is one of the most widely distributed tree species in the world. The plant prefers a cool and humid growing environment and is a strong sun-loving tree species.

Poplar growth temperature

The most suitable growth temperature for poplar is around 20℃. The plant has good cold resistance and can withstand temperatures as low as -15℃. Under normal circumstances, it will not be frozen to death.

Poplar growth humidity

Poplars have relatively high requirements for growth humidity and require a lot of water. Soil moisture is the most important factor affecting plant growth. During the growing season, the soil moisture content cannot be lower than 10%.

Poplar growing soil

Poplars do not have high requirements for soil. They prefer deep, loose, fertile alluvial soil. The organic matter content in the soil should be greater than 0.4%. Poplars will grow slowly in barren clay.

Poplar growth cycle and process

Spring is the peak growth period for poplars. The leaf buds of the plants begin to sprout in March and April, and the leaves open in April. After the leaves open, the poplars enter a period of vigorous growth, and July and August are the peak periods of vegetative growth.
