Yacon Growth Environment Conditions and Characteristics

Yacon Growth Environment Conditions and Requirements

Yacon is native to the central and northern parts of Chile, mostly growing in the central plateau areas. It is also widely cultivated in my country. The plant prefers a cool climate and is most suitable for growing in warm and cool mountainous areas at low latitudes and high altitudes.

Yacon Growth Temperature

Yacon prefers medium to low temperatures, with the optimum growth temperature being 5-25°C. It can grow in areas with an average annual temperature below 18°C. This plant has relatively good cold resistance.

Yacon growth humidity

Yacon has high requirements for water, and the relative humidity of the air should be around 80-85%. If it is grown in a greenhouse, the air humidity should not change too much, otherwise it will easily cause fruit cracking.

Yacon growing soil

Yacon prefers deep, fertile soil with convenient irrigation and drainage. The organic matter content of the soil should be above 15%, and it should also have good water and fertilizer retention capabilities, which is conducive to the full expansion of the tubers.

Yacon Growth Cycle and Process

The yacon plant is sown in mid-April every year and will sprout in about 10 days. When the seedlings grow to about 10 cm, they are transplanted and planted. It enters a period of vigorous growth from July to August, and needs to be pruned at this time until it can be harvested in October.
