How to propagate jujube trees and what to pay attention to

Jujube tree reproduction method

The common methods of propagation of jujube trees are mainly division and grafting. They can also be propagated by cuttings. Some varieties can be propagated by seeds, but some cannot. Its natural way of reproduction is seed propagation.

Date tree breeding time

It is generally more appropriate to choose June and July in summer every year for the reproduction of jujube trees. At this time, the plants grow vigorously and the survival rate of reproduction is relatively high.

Jujube tree propagation method

Jujube tree division propagation

Mature jujube trees can sprout some root suckers every year, which can reach a height of about 1m in the same year and can be transplanted in autumn.

Jujube tree cutting propagation

First, fill the middle of the pot with the prepared soil, and water it to keep it moist. Cut strong jujube tree branches, and then insert the oblique cut end into the soil. The insertion depth should be 1/2 to 1/3 of the length of the branch. Generally, roots will grow and sprouts will appear about a month after the cuttings. Avoid strong light during this period.

Seed propagation of jujube trees

When sowing jujube seeds, do not sow them too deep. The seeds should be 2-3cm away from the ground surface. Too deep a depth will affect the germination rate of the seeds. At the same time, the large lumps of soil in the garden will be broken up. Soil that is too deep and too heavy will affect the growth of the seeds.

Precautions for jujube tree breeding

Before propagating jujube trees by cuttings, it is important to treat the root spikes with a rooting agent. The cutting depth should be about 3 cm. Too deep can easily cause base rot, but it should not be too shallow, which can easily cause the cuttings to fall over and expose the roots after rooting. After cuttings, the insertion holes should be squeezed tightly to allow the river sand and cuttings to combine closely.
