What are the cultivation methods and precautions of lotus?

Lotus cultivation method

Lotus is the common name for two species of plants in the Nelumbo family, Ranunculales. It is generally planted by dividing lotus roots and breeding by seeds. Lotus is an aquatic plant and prefers relatively stable nature. Fresh water, lakes, swamps, and ponds are its suitable habitats.

Lotus can generally be cultivated using pond mud or rice field mud as the planting soil. It has strict requirements on temperature and will germinate when the temperature is 8-10℃. During the growth process of the lotus, it needs to receive sufficient sunlight, at least 7 hours a day, to promote its growth.

Watering method

During the cultivation process of lotus, a 3-5 cm water layer must be maintained during the plant growing season. Water it every day in summer and keep the soil moist in winter.

Fertilization method

Lotus likes fertilizer, but it is necessary to apply thin fertilizer frequently. If the lotus has rot and leaf blight, it needs to be sprayed with medicine in time.

Pruning methods

Generally speaking, lotus growing in ponds and marshes does not need to be pruned. The lotus itself has regulatory functions and there are no conditions for pruning, so it is difficult to operate in water.

Lotus cultivation precautions

1. Lotus will inevitably be threatened by diseases and pests during its growth, so preventive measures must be taken in the process of cultivating lotus, and appropriate drug treatment must be used immediately after the plant is infected with diseases and pests.

2. When watering the lotus, please note that you should water it at noon when the temperature is highest in winter, and avoid watering during the high temperature period at noon in summer. In addition, wipe the leaves frequently with a wet towel to ensure that the leaves are clean.
