Purple lentil planting time and method

Purple lentil planting time and method

Purple lentil planting time

Purple lentils can be planted in the open field in spring from April to June. If they are planted in a greenhouse, they can be sown in March or in July to August in autumn. They will be mature and harvested in about 45 days after planting. If planted in September to October, it will take 80 days to mature.

Purple lentil planting method

1. Land preparation and fertilization

Before planting purple lentils, you need to till the selected planting land, then spread fully decomposed farmyard manure, and then combine tilling with layered fertilization for better results. The fertilizer should be mixed with the soil, then harrow the land and wait for sowing.

2. Sowing method

There are two main methods for sowing purple lentils: open ditch sowing or hole sowing. The sowing depth is generally 5-7 cm. After sowing, it should be covered with gray soil, then poured with an appropriate amount of water, covered with some straw, and keeping the soil and water moist to facilitate germination.

3. Field management

Purple lentils are very drought-resistant. Control watering during the seedling stage, water frequently after the vines have stretched and during the pod-setting stage. Watering is needed 1-2 times during the vine stretching period, and once a week during the flowering period. After watering, carry out inter-row cultivation and weeding to prevent falling flowers and pods and excessive growth.

Purple lentil planting precautions

Purple lentils rarely have diseases, but aphids and pod borers often appear. If aphids appear, spray them with imidacloprid. If pod borers appear, spray them with pyrethroids once every 7 days to prevent and control them.
