Gourd planting is usually divided into seasons, but most of them are best planted in spring. If it is planted in a greenhouse, it can be done in January, if it is planted in an arch shed, it can be done in mid-February, and if it is planted in the open field, it can be planted in early March. In addition, it can also be planted in autumn in mid-to-early July.

There are many varieties of gourds in my country. The more common ones are thread gourd, long gourd, noodle gourd, Xiaogan gourd, Sanjiangkou gourd, big gourd, etc. However, there is not much difference in the planting time among the same varieties.

Gourd harvest season

Gourds are mostly harvested and put on the market in July and August, with the market price ranging from 0.3 to 2.8 yuan per catty. Generally, the yield of gourds grown in greenhouses is about 6,000 catties per mu, and the yield of open-field planting will be slightly lower.

Gourd planting steps and methods

1. Land preparation and fertilization

Before sowing, the soil should be deeply plowed, and some organic fertilizer and compound fertilizer should be applied per acre of land, and then it can be raked and leveled.

2. Soaking in water to accelerate germination

Soak the gourd seeds in 40℃ warm water for a day, then take them out and wrap them in wet gauze to germinate.

3. Sowing

After the land is prepared, sow the seeds using the hole sowing method. Put about 2 seeds in each hole, then cover with soil, water appropriately, and wait for the seeds to germinate.
