The growth environment and local conditions of Thuja

Growth environment and conditions of Thuja

Thuja is mainly distributed in areas with an altitude of 700 to 2100 meters. It is often found in the cracks of cliffs. In China, it is mainly distributed in Daba Mountains in Sichuan and Taihang Mountains in North China.

Thuja growing conditions

Thuja is a sun-loving tree that prefers an environment with plenty of sunlight. It is slightly shade-tolerant and has a wide adaptability to soils. It is tolerant of poor and dry soils but not of waterlogging. It is suitable for planting in moist, well-breathed calcareous soils but not of acidic and saline soils.

Growth temperature of thuja

Thuja prefers a warm environment and requires a moderate temperature. It is not resistant to high temperatures and its growth stagnates when the temperature exceeds 32 degrees. It has a certain resistance to low temperatures, but will be damaged by frost if it is exposed to temperatures of minus 10 degrees for 10 consecutive days.

Growth process of thuja

When talking about the growth of Thuja sutchuenensis, we have to mention the three terms twisting, rotation and distortion, as well as cloud patterns, nipples, lumps, pomegranates, old stubble and bones. By observing the twisting, rotation and distortion of Thuja sutchuenensis, we will find that they all rotate clockwise, which is also the direction of the earth's rotation, and it should be due to the force of gravity.

Planting time and method of Thuja

1. Thuja can be planted in spring, summer and autumn. If it is maintained in a greenhouse, it can be planted at any time. It is best to carry out cuttings in early spring, plant seedlings in summer and autumn, and then go out to the mountains for afforestation in the spring of the following year.

2. Thuja sutchuenensis is a relatively shade-tolerant, positive tree species. It can grow faster in sunny mountainous areas with plenty of sunlight. It is more reasonable to use a plant spacing of 2m×3m or 3m×4m for afforestation.

3. Reasonable pruning and shaping can significantly promote height growth. Heavy pruning in spring and light pruning in summer (or no pruning when not grafting) should be done. Different pruning methods should be adopted according to the age of the trees. Shortening should be the main method in the first and second years. In the third and fourth years, overlapping branches, competing branches, and overly dense branches should be thinned out to maintain a cone or tower shape.
