How to divide Clivia

Clivia division time

Clivia belongs to the Amaryllis family. There are many types of it, such as sword-leaf Lycoris, large-leaf Lycoris, etc. When dividing the plants, it is usually done in spring every year. The season is relatively warm and more suitable for growth. It can grow rapidly after division.

Clivia division propagation method

Every spring, Clivia will grow new fleshy leaves from the gap in the middle, which will cause the old leaves to swell and burst. Then the old leaves will die, and then new leaves will grow. In summer, they will crack and 2-3 small new plants will grow. You can cut the young plants from the base and transplant them.

Steps for dividing Clivia

1. When dividing Clivia, you need to find the sprouting small plants, then use a knife or other tools to separate them, trim their roots, and keep the root length at about one centimeter.

2. Prepare a pot of suitable size and configure the substrate in advance. It must be loose, fertile and well-drained. Then fill the substrate in. The height does not need to be too high. Then cover it with a layer of diatomaceous earth. This will make it both clean and beautiful.

3. After filling in the substrate, use tools to poke small holes on it, and then plant the small plants one by one. After planting, water them a little to ensure they are moist, and place them in a cool, well-ventilated place without strong light.

If the Clivia is growing healthily, you can choose either dry soil or wet soil and it will grow well. However, if it grows weakly, it is best to use a wet soil pot. Wet soil pots can allow it to adapt to the environment better. It does not require too much nutrition to grow, so you can choose to apply some bone meal.
