When is the best time to sow Wenwan gourds?

Planting time of Wenwan gourd

Wenwan gourd, as the name suggests, is a gourd that can be played with in the hands. It is suitable for playing in the hands and is planted once a year.

The sowing time of ornamental gourds is determined according to the temperature in the north and south. Generally speaking, as long as the average outdoor temperature in the south is around 20 degrees, it can be planted. In the north, it can be maintained indoors in April in spring, and then transplanted outside for planting after the weather stabilizes.

How to sow the gourd

1. Choose seeds. Before planting ornamental gourds, you need to choose large and relatively full seeds. The color of the selected seeds should not be too light or too dark, and there should be no worm holes on them. Only complete seeds can germinate better.

2. For row planting, prepare loose and fertile soil in advance, and also prepare flower pots with good drainage. Disinfect them, then place the treated seeds in the soil and cover them with 1 cm of soil. Do not bury them too deep to prevent the seeds from being suffocated and affecting germination.

Key points for planting ornamental gourds

When the branches of the ornamental gourd are put on the shelf, they need to be toppled for the first time. When they grow 4-5 leaves, they need to be toppled for the second time. Depending on their growth, multiple toppings will be required. This will promote the growth of branches and facilitate their flowering and fruiting.

The soil of the ornamental gourd needs to be kept moist during its growth period, but no water accumulation should occur. In the rainy season, preparations for drainage need to be made. If the temperature is high in summer, the frequency of watering can be appropriately increased, and the soil should not be too dry.

The harvest of ornamental gourds

Wenwan gourds are generally planted in March and April in spring and harvested in October each year. The picking time can also be a little later, so that the Wenwan gourds can absorb more nutrients and make them more mature.
