Black raspberry fruiting years

Introduction to Growing Black Raspberries

Generally, black raspberries are cultivated in early spring. They start to bear fruit in the second year after planting, enter the peak fruit-bearing period in the third year, and have the highest yield in the fourth and fifth years. High and stable yields can be maintained for more than 15 years.

It is mainly produced in northern central China, Shaanxi, Gansu, Taiwan and southwestern provinces. It is also distributed from the eastern Himalayas to Japan and Sakhalin Island. The main varieties include Qiujin, Jinfeng, Royal Mi, Jinkewei, Jinsami, etc.

Black raspberry planting results after several years

Summer-fruiting raspberries can bear fruit the following year after planting, and reach stable production in the third year. Autumn-fruiting raspberries can bear fruit the same year after planting, and reach stable production in the second year. After bearing fruit, they are generally harvested in June and basically finished in mid-July.

Black raspberry has high requirements for soil and is suitable for growing in an environment with deep soil, good drainage and rich organic matter. Therefore, when choosing a site, try to choose soil rich in organic matter for planting. After selecting a site, deep plow the soil to about 25 cm and apply enough decomposed farmyard manure.

Black raspberry does not require much water, it only needs to keep the soil moist. After it grows for a certain period of time, it will grow vines, and some supports need to be built in time. Generally, it is best to build a pillar every 5 meters. When the branches grow to about 1.2 meters, they should be pinched in time to promote the growth of side branches of the plant.

Grafted black raspberry blooms and bears fruit

Grafted black raspberry will bloom and bear fruit in the same year of cultivation. It can bear fruit twice a year, mainly in summer and autumn. The summer fruits are from the branches that sprouted in the first year and mature in July of the following year, while the autumn fruits are from the branches that sprouted in the same year and mature in September.

Potted black raspberry fruit

Potted raspberries are highly ornamental and begin to bear fruit in the second year. In the early stages, the fruit yield is very small, but will gradually increase afterwards. If the pots and barrels are larger and managed properly, the yield can be further increased.

Why don't black raspberries bear fruit?

1. It is very likely that there is not enough light. Black raspberries particularly like sunny locations. Unobstructed light is what raspberries like best. Without light, there will be no photosynthesis, and they will not be able to bloom and bear fruit.

2. Unbalanced fertilization. Fertilization should be applied according to the growth nodes of black raspberries to ensure normal growth, especially before the flowering period, when the growth is transformed from vegetative growth to reproductive growth, the use of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can be increased. Some foliar fertilizers can also promote the differentiation of flower buds.

3. You may have bought fake seedlings, which are basically seedlings. Most seedlings are used to cultivate new varieties, and the probability of seedlings mutation is very high.

Black raspberry planting tips

Before planting black raspberries, the soil needs to be renovated, weeded, and disinfected. Sufficient base fertilizer needs to be applied to meet the growth needs of the plants. In addition, the new shoots of the plants are prone to lodging when they grow to about 50 cm, and need to be tied up with a branch frame. Top dressing should be applied once in May and June respectively, with 15 to 20 grams of urea applied per plant. It is a shallow-rooted tree species and prefers a moist growing environment.
