What fertilizer is good for growing pumpkins?

Pumpkin Fertilizer

About 10 days after the pumpkin is planted, spray it with a thin nitrogen fertilizer to promote the rapid growth of side vines. When the side vines are more than 50 cm long, you can pinch off the tender stem tips and eat them, and then apply a thin organic fertilizer mainly composed of nitrogen.

Pumpkin fertilizer

Pumpkin has a well-developed root system and a strong ability to absorb fertilizer. Before winter, the soil can be deeply plowed and fertilized with high-quality organic fertilizer, superphosphate, potassium fertilizer, or high-quality three-element compound fertilizer.

Pumpkin topdressing

During the pumpkin seedling period, nitrogen fertilizer needs to be applied in order to promote the growth of the seedlings. Generally, urea is applied. During the fruiting period, not only sufficient nitrogen fertilizer is needed, but also timely supplementation of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers is required to ensure that the fruit is fully expanded.

Fertilizer for pumpkin growing season

After the pumpkin seedlings have been transplanted and have grown slowly, if they do not grow well and the leaves turn yellow, you can apply fertilizer to promote plant growth when watering. Apply 250-300 kg of biogas slurry per mu. When the plant enters the middle growth stage and grows 1-2 young melons, apply more fruit-promoting fertilizer. Generally, apply 1000-1500 kg of biogas slurry per mu. Topdressing should mainly be quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer, combined with a small amount of phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer.

Fertilizer for pumpkin fruiting period

Pumpkins also need to be fertilized in time during the fruiting period. Apply 10-15 kg of urea, 5-10 kg of potassium sulfate, or 15 kg of three-element compound fertilizer per mu, and apply them together 1-2 times.

The correct way to fertilize pumpkin

Apply basal fertilizer, manure, superphosphate, potassium fertilizer and a small amount of urea before planting the pumpkin. Apply fertilizer according to holes when preparing the land. Apply nitrogen fertilizer once after planting and the seedlings have grown. From the budding of the female flowers to the fruiting of the first flower, attention should be paid to slowing the seedlings and controlling fertilization. Apply fertilizer once more after the pubescence on the surface of the pumpkin fruit has faded to promote the enlargement and growth of the fruit.

After the third and fourth pumpkins set fruit, the demand for nutrients is high and you can apply fertilizer once more to prevent premature aging of the plant. When the vines and leaves turn yellow in the later stage of growth, spraying urea on the leaves can delay premature aging of the leaves.

Pumpkin Fertilizer Precautions

Top dressing for pumpkins should be based on the growth stage and soil fertility. If the pumpkin leaves are dark green and growing vigorously, then top dressing is not needed. Otherwise, it will cause the pumpkin to grow too tall. Top dressing can be done if the leaves turn yellow and the stems are thin and the growth is weak.
