How long is the growing cycle of sweet corn?

Sweet Corn Growth Introduction

Sweet corn is suitable for growing in land with deep soil, good fertility, good permeability, convenient irrigation and drainage and moderate pH. In my country, it is mainly grown in Northeast, North China, Southwest and Northwest regions. The main producing areas are Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning and Inner Mongolia.

Sweet corn growth cycle

Sweet corn can be divided into spring-sown corn and summer-sown corn. Different varieties of spring-sown corn have different growth cycles, with early maturing at 70 days, mid-maturing at 85 days, and late maturing at 120-150 days. If it is summer-sown corn, early maturing at 70 days, mid-maturing at 85 days, and late maturing at 95-115 days. The growth cycle is closely related to temperature.

Sweet corn growth rate

The growth process of sweet corn mainly has three stages, namely the seedling stage, ear stage and flower and grain stage. The growth rate of sweet corn is relatively fast, especially in the ear stage, which is the period of its most vigorous growth and development, and it is also the critical period for determining the number and size of ears.

Sweet corn growth cycle management

The number of sweet corn plants per acre is about 2,800, and the yield of bare ears per acre is about 2,240 kilograms. The total sweet corn output in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning and Inner Mongolia is about 65 million tons.

Temperature Management

The temperature for sweet corn seeds to germinate is 6-10℃. At 16-21℃, germination is more vigorous and the seedlings emerge more evenly. The optimum temperature for the first sprouts is 28-35℃. When the temperature reaches above 40℃, germination is hindered.

Fertilization management

When fertilizing Sweet King Rice, it is necessary to ensure a comprehensive and balanced supply of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. Of course, the content of fast-acting nutrients in the soil must also be considered. If the growing environment is rich in potassium, the focus should be on increasing the application of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers.
