Introduction to flax

Flax is a herbaceous plant with an upright stem, 1.2 meters in height, soft upper part, lanceolate leaves with white frost on the surface, 5 petals, blue or white, capsule fruit, flat oval seeds. Flax is also known as sesame, and varieties of flax include large-flowered flax, blue-flowered flax, flowered flax, red flax, and short-column flax.

Flax growing conditions

Flax prefers a cool and humid environment, is not cold-resistant or heat-resistant, the minimum temperature for seed germination is 1-3°C, the most suitable temperature is 20-25°C, the suitable temperature for vegetative growth is 11-18°C, the soil moisture content needs to be between 70%-80%, and the growing period is 70-80 days.

Flax is suitable for planting on slightly acidic or neutral soil with deep soil layer, loose and fertile soil, good drainage and rich in organic matter. It can also be planted in alkaline soil with salt content below 0.2%. It is planted in Heilongjiang and Jilin of China. The main producing areas are Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Ningxia, Hebei, Xinjiang and other places.

The suitable sowing period for flax is from May 15 to June 10, when the temperature is stable above 20 degrees, there is abundant rainfall, and the air humidity is high, which is suitable for plant growth.
