How to save watermelon seeds

How to save watermelon seeds

When watermelon matures, it will produce seeds. It needs to be cut open. The black seeds inside are its seeds. It can usually be harvested in summer, which is its maturity period. After harvesting, it needs to be dried and then preserved.

Keep the seeds of watermelon

You can save your own watermelon seeds, but the growth rate is not as good as harvesting current specialty seeds, because most of them are hybrid seeds.

How to get watermelon seeds

You can harvest watermelon seeds yourself after they mature, or you can buy them from street vendors or online. There are many channels to obtain them.

Watermelon seed storage

Before storing watermelon seeds, they need to be dried in the sun, then wrapped in plastic film and stored in a relatively dry and low-temperature environment. Be sure to avoid moisture, otherwise it will cause them to rot and be detrimental to future planting.

Watermelon seed planting method

There are generally three planting times for watermelons. Early-maturing ones are usually planted in March, mid-maturing ones are planted from April to June, and late-maturing ones are planted in July.

Before planting watermelons, you must first soak the seeds in warm water to promote germination. After the seeds germinate, fill the prepared flowerpots with base fertilizer and well-drained soil. Then plant the germinated seeds in the flowerpots and cover them with a small amount of soil. Soon its seedlings will break through the soil.
