How many years does wintersweet bear fruit?

How many years does it take for wintersweet to bloom?

It usually takes 3 years for wintersweet seedlings to bloom. If the environment is not good, it will take about 4 or 5 years. Grafted seedlings usually bloom in the second year. If well maintained, they can bloom in the same year. The flowers are waxy yellow in color and have a certain fragrance.

In order for wintersweet to bloom successfully, it needs loose, breathable, nutrient-rich soil. At the same time, pay attention to applying enough base fertilizer. During the growing season, it generally takes about 10 days to apply some thin liquid fertilizer. When it enters early summer, you can spray or water some thin fertilizer every week. Do not water heavily before the flowering period. Actively prune before the flowering period to promote the appearance of new branches.

Why doesn't wintersweet bear fruit?

What is cultivated are seedlings: After sowing, wintersweet needs to be maintained for 3-5 years before it can enter the flowering and fruiting period. Therefore, even if sufficient water and fertilizer are provided, it will not bear fruit.

Excessive nitrogen fertilizer: If water and fertilizer are not managed properly during the growth period of wintersweet, especially if too much nitrogen fertilizer is applied, the branches and leaves will grow too long, affecting the differentiation of flower buds and making it difficult to bear fruit. Therefore, nitrogen fertilizer can be applied to wintersweet in spring, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be added in summer and autumn, and the use of nitrogen fertilizer should be controlled to promote early differentiation of flower buds.

Excessive humidity: Wintersweet likes light. If the maintenance environment is dark, it will affect the differentiation of flower buds. If there is too much water in the soil, it is also not conducive to the differentiation of flower buds. For this reason, watering should be controlled in late summer and early autumn, and it should always be placed in a sunny place to promote the differentiation of flower buds.

Key points of high-yield planting technology of wintersweet

The key points of planting wintersweets are to prepare potting soil with good air permeability, do not use sticky soil, select high-quality, plump, disease-free seeds, and harvest the seeds yourself for planting in the spring of the following year. Put the seeds in warm water for 12-24 hours, sow them in the soil and cover them with soil. Note that planting should not be carried out in summer and winter.
