Growth cycle of red pine

Under normal circumstances, the growth cycle of Korean pine is 25 to 30 years. The flowering period of Korean pine is in June, and the cones mature in September-October of the following year. This tree species is highly photophilic, and the amount of light it needs gradually increases with the age of the tree. It requires a mild and cool climate, a soil pH of 5.5-6.5, and grows best on hillsides.

Korean pine has a very strong cold resistance, and can still grow tenaciously without being harmed even at minus 50°C. It grows mostly in the belly of mountains, foothills, hills, and both sides of river valleys. In my country, it is only distributed in the area from Changbai Mountain to Xiaoxing'anling in the northeast.

Growth rate of Korean pine

The growth rate of Korean pine is about 30 centimeters per year. From the time the Korean pine seedlings form the terminal bud, the growth rate slows down. In artificial forests, the early growth of Korean pine is significantly accelerated. Generally, the diameter at breast height and tree height grow slowly only in the first 10 years, and the growth reaches a vigorous period in 10 to 30 years.

Growth cycle management of Korean pine

Temperature management: Korean pine is extremely cold-resistant and has no frost damage even in the Xiaoxing'anling forest area at a temperature of minus 50 degrees Celsius in winter.

Fertilization management: Fertilization can effectively increase soil fertility and provide sufficient nutrients for the growth of Korean pine. Fertilization time is in the mid-May of the first three years after afforestation. Managers need to fertilize Korean pine and apply nitrogen and potassium fertilizers to maintain its fertility. Mix urea and potassium sulfate in a ratio of 3:1. 10-15kg of fertilizer is needed for each acre of Korean pine planting area. The longer the tree grows, the more fertilizer needs to be applied.
