Can Strelitzia be grown hydroponically?

Strelitzia can be grown in water, but the common Strelitzia in our daily life grows in the soil. In comparison, the gloss, sweetness and appearance of the water-grown Strelitzia are better than those grown in soil.

Methods and key points of hydroponic cultivation of Strelitzia reginae

1. Division treatment

Before hydroponically cultivating Strelitzia reginae, you should select strong Strelitzia seedlings during the growth period. It is best to take out some seedlings with roots. After trimming off the rotten roots and dead leaves, rinse and disinfect them with clean water.

2. Add water

When hydroponically cultivating Strelitzia reginae, choose a transparent glass container or plastic container, place the branches directly into it, add clean water to cover 3/2 of its roots and an appropriate amount of specific plant nutrient solution into the container, and then observe its growth.

Precautions for growing Strelitzia in water

1. Change water and fertilize

The water of hydroponic Strelitzia reginae should be changed once a day. Nutrient solution should be added while changing the water and attention should be paid to removing rotten roots. After new roots grow, remember to change the type of nutrient solution and replace the nutrient solution every 2 weeks. After the flowers wither, the remaining flower stalks should be cut off in time to avoid nutrient loss.

2. Temperature and light

The temperature suitable for the growth of Strelitzia reginae is 16-25℃, because it will stop growing if the temperature is too high, so it should be placed in a cool and ventilated place in summer to prevent exposure to the sun; in spring and autumn, it should be placed in a bright place with scattered light to prevent insufficient light; in winter, it should be placed in indoor sunlight to prevent frostbite or death.
