What month is suitable for planting spinach and when is the best time to plant it?

When to plant spinach

Spinach can be planted all year round, and because of different planting times, it is divided into four varieties: spring, summer, autumn and winter. The four varieties have different requirements for light intensity. Spring should be planted in March, summer from May to July, autumn from August to September, and winter from October to November.

Spinach harvest time/flowering time

If spinach is planted in spring, it can be harvested 1-2 months after sowing. In summer, because of its faster growth rate, it can be planted in May-July and harvested in June-September. Autumn spinach is more heat-resistant and can be harvested one month after planting. Overwintering spinach usually needs to be harvested around the Spring Festival.

Spinach planting methods and key points

1. Seeds: Spinach seeds need to be soaked in warm water for about 12 hours before sowing, and then they need to be refrigerated for 24 hours. After taking them out, they need to be placed in an environment with a temperature of 20-25 degrees for germination. They will germinate in about 3-5 days.

2. Soil: Spinach generally grows in loose, fertile, well-drained soil. Before sowing, the land needs to be deep plowed and prepared, and then an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer should be applied, and disinfection should be carried out.

3. Sowing: Spinach seeds can be sown after germination. They can be spread in a scattered manner. After sowing, they need to be watered thoroughly, covered with 2-3 cm of soil, and the soil should be kept moist. The seedlings will be fully grown after a week.
