When and how to plant sunflowers

Sunflower planting time

Sunflowers are suitable for planting between April and June in spring. When the temperature is stable between 18-25 degrees, they can germinate better in such an environment. The specific time depends on the region. If it is in the northern region, the planting time is probably after May. If it is in the warm southern region, the planting time can be appropriately advanced and can be planted around April.

How to plant sunflowers

1. Seed selection

Choose mature, plump and disease-free seeds. Germinate the seeds before sowing to increase the survival rate. Wrap the seeds with moistened gauze and place them in a warm environment. The seeds will germinate in 2-3 days.

2. Planting

The suitable temperature for sowing is between 18-25℃, usually it can be planted when the temperature is around 20 degrees. Insert the pointed end of the seed into the soil, not too deep. After planting, cover it with a thin layer of soil, water it to keep the soil moist, and then place it in a semi-shaded place for maintenance.

3. Transplanting

Wait until the sunflower has sprouted 2-3 pairs of true leaves before transplanting. Prepare slightly acidic to neutral sandy soil with good drainage and air permeability, apply some base fertilizer to increase the nutrients in the soil, move it to a cool and ventilated place after planting, and then put it in a sunny place after it grows. If it is well maintained, it will bloom in less than two months.

Sunflower planting precautions

After planting sunflowers, you should pay attention to the maintenance method. Water them in time to keep the soil moist, but do not allow water to accumulate. The potting soil should not be too wet. Control watering between the seedling stage and the bud stage, and increase watering during the bud and flowering stages. In addition, it is a sun-loving plant, so provide sufficient light conditions after it begins to sprout and grow.
