In the north, it is necessary to choose a suitable planting time for carrots, which is generally from early July to mid-to-late August. In places like the Northeast, winter comes early, so sowing should start in June. The specific time needs to vary according to the different climate conditions in each place.

How to grow carrots in the north

1. Land preparation and sowing

Before sowing carrots in the north, the soil must be prepared. Carrots like loose, fertile soil with good drainage. Before sowing, all debris and weeds in the field must be removed, and rows of ridges must be made for sowing. After covering the soil, a layer of straw or corn stalks should be covered on the seeds to prevent rapid evaporation of water.

2. Watering and fertilizing

Water the plants immediately after sowing the seeds, but be careful not to use too strong a flow of water to avoid washing away the seeds. When the carrot seedlings grow to 4-5 cm, they need to be fertilized. Try to use farmyard manure. When the carrot rhizomes begin to grow, they need to be fertilized for the second time. You can use some triple compound fertilizer to provide nutrients.

Precautions for planting carrots in the north

Carrots in the north are planted in the summer, so drainage needs to be done well. After the rain, holes should be dug in the fields to drain water. During droughts, water pipes need to be placed between the ridges for irrigation. In addition, the harvest time should not be too late. They can be harvested in batches according to the maturity time. Mature carrots should be harvested to avoid affecting the quality of the carrots.
