Growth habits of water chestnut

Water chestnut is an aquatic herb that matures around August every year. Its fruit is sharp and horn-shaped and usually grows in the water under the leaves.

Water chestnuts are resistant to moisture but not cold, and prefer an environment with plenty of sunlight. They have certain requirements for water levels, basically in water depths of about 30 to 60 cm, but as the plant grows and the root system grows, the water depth can gradually increase to about 1 to 1.2 m.

Water chestnuts are native to warm regions in Asia and are also found in small quantities in Europe, but only my country and India have cultivated and improved them. They are grown in most waters in southern my country, especially in the Taihu Lake area in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the Pearl River Delta region, and the Honghu Lake waters in Hubei.

The growing environment and conditions of water chestnut

1. Temperature

Water chestnut likes to grow in a warm and humid climate. It has a strong demand for sunlight. Long daylight is beneficial to its growth and development. The suitable climate for planting is best kept at around 25 degrees Celsius to 36 degrees Celsius. When flowering and fruiting, the temperature needs to reach around 20-30 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is below 15 degrees Celsius, the water chestnut will basically stop growing.

2. Soil

Water chestnuts have very strict requirements on the soil. The soil needs to be fertile and loose, and the thickness of the bottom silt must reach more than 20cm. Most of its nutrients are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium absorbed from the soil. These three elements will make the water chestnuts grow healthily.
