Chickpea Planting Time and Method

Chickpea Planting Time and Method

Chickpea Planting Time

Generally, chickpeas can be planted in spring, summer and autumn. The planting time in spring is April-May, the planting time in summer is June, and the planting time in autumn is October-November. Before sowing, you should choose seeds with good quality and high yield for planting.

Chickpea Planting Methods

1. Choose the soil

Chickpeas are not suitable for growing in saline-alkali soil. When growing chickpeas, it is necessary to provide them with fertile sandy loam with convenient drainage and irrigation. It is best to grow chickpeas with crops such as beets, cotton, and sorghum for more than 3 years. Before sowing chickpeas, the soil should be plowed first to facilitate the growth of the plant's roots.

2. Planting

After the soil is renovated, sufficient base fertilizer can be applied. In autumn, the seeds can be directly scattered in the field. The sowing amount per mu is about 1,000 kg. Generally, seed fertilizer is applied in trenches before sowing, with a depth of about 8-10 cm. In order to avoid burning the sprouts, the fertilizer needs to be about 5-8 cm away from the seeds. Water thoroughly after sowing to keep the soil moist.

Chickpea planting precautions

1. Weeding and loosening the soil

Chickpea seedlings are easily affected by weeds. When growing chickpeas, it is necessary to spray herbicides around the plants one month after sowing to remove weeds in the soil and allow the chickpeas to grow healthily. A second weeding should be carried out two months after sowing to prevent weeds from competing with chickpeas for nutrients.

2. Maintenance methods

When caring for chickpeas, you need to water the plants when there is too little rainfall to keep the soil moist and meet the chickpeas' need for water. When the chickpeas grow 4-6 true leaves, you must control the frequency of watering to avoid water accumulation in the soil, which will cause the chickpeas to drop flowers and fruits.
