When and how to plant amaranth

Amaranth planting time

You need to choose the right time to plant amaranth. Generally, amaranth likes a warm growing environment, so it can be planted in March or April. The temperature at this time begins to rise, which is more suitable for the growth of amaranth. At the same time, you need to observe the weather before planting. You can plant it on rainy days to provide a more humid environment for the plant.

How to plant amaranth

1. Planting soil

Before planting amaranth, you need to choose suitable soil, preferably a plot with fewer weeds. Although amaranth has a wide adaptability to soil, loose, fertile soil with good fertilizer and water retention properties is preferred. Alkaline soil is the best. Loosen the soil in advance and apply some base fertilizer.

2. Processing seeds

Amaranth is generally planted by sowing. Select healthy seeds with full grains and no diseases in advance. In order to increase the survival rate of the seeds before planting, you can soak the seeds in clean water and sow them after they are about to sprout.

3. Planting

When planting amaranth, you can soak all the soil in advance. Because amaranth seeds are small, mixing some fine soil before sowing can make the sowing even. After sowing, cover it with a layer of fine soil and wait for the seedlings to emerge.

Amaranth planting precautions

Amaranth is a fertilizer-loving plant and needs to be fertilized several times during its growth period. Generally, the first fertilizer is applied when the seedlings have a pair of true leaves, and the second fertilizer is applied about 10 to 12 days later. After that, top dressing is applied once after each harvest, mainly nitrogen fertilizer. Each time, dilute human feces and urine can be applied with urea.
