Where is Gastrodia suitable for growing?

Where does Gastrodia elata grow?

Gastrodia elata is mostly distributed in hilly areas with an altitude of 300-700m, among which the shady and moist places under the forest with thick humus are the most suitable. However, it should be noted that it should not be planted in places with strong winds.

Gastrodia elata is native to China and is distributed throughout China, such as Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Shaanxi, Gansu, Anhui, Henan, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Tibet and other regions.

Gastrodia elata growth environment

1. Growth humidity

Gastrodia elata likes a humid environment, so it is suitable to grow in loose and well-drained sandy soil. Generally, when the water content reaches 60%, it can promote the growth of Gastrodia elata very well. When the soil humidity is too high, it will cause the tubers to rot.

2. Growth temperature

Gastrodia elata likes a cool environment. The temperature range suitable for its growth is generally between 10-25℃. When the temperature exceeds 30℃, the growth of Gastrodia elata will be inhibited.

3. Growth Light

Light does not have much effect on Gastrodia elata, but it is more suitable for indoor cultivation. If it is cultivated outside the yard, direct sunlight can easily burn the stems, which is not conducive to its growth and development.

4. Soil pH

Different soil textures have a great impact on the growth of Gastrodia elata. It is suitable for growing in relatively loose sandy soil. Heavy clay soil is prone to water accumulation, which will affect air permeability in severe cases and directly lead to the death of tubers. Soil that is too sandy can easily cause soil water shortage, which also affects the growth of tubers. Slightly acidic soil with a pH between 5.5 and 6.0 is suitable.
