How do persimmon seeds germinate and how do they grow?

Persimmon seeds can be sown and have a high germination rate. After the seeds are planted in the soil, they will germinate in 15-20 days if managed properly. They can be planted in pots around the Qingming Festival of the following year. In about 2 years, the rudiments will be grown.

After the persimmon seedlings emerge, they need to be transplanted outside. When transplanting, be sure to gently dig out the roots and then plant them in the soil.

Persimmon seed germination method

Step 1 : Place the persimmon seeds in a moist paper towel and wrap them in a plastic bag to keep them warm. Put them in the refrigerator and wake them up for 3-4 months. The persimmon seeds will then germinate.

Step 2 : Plant the persimmon seeds in the soil and ensure that the soil has good drainage function. Then control the temperature between 70 degrees and 80 degrees. Place it in a shaded and ventilated place, but with a certain amount of sunlight. The persimmon seeds will germinate in about 7-8 weeks.

Persimmon seed germination process

Soak the persimmon seeds in warm water at 30-40℃ for 2-3 days, and change the water every day and stir constantly. When the persimmon seeds absorb water and swell, put them in nutrient soil containing humus and cover them with a layer of plastic film to keep the soil moist. They will germinate in about 6-10 days.

Persimmon Seed Harvest

It takes at least 8 years from planting to harvesting persimmon seeds, but grafted persimmons can bear fruit in 3-4 years, and good varieties of persimmons should be selected for grafting. Persimmons have very few seeds, and sometimes even a basket may not yield a single seed, so they are not suitable for use as rootstocks for reproduction. Generally, black dates and garden dates can be used as rootstocks to graft excellent persimmon varieties.
