Where does camellia grow? Can it survive in the north?

1. Where to grow

Its origin is in China and Japan. It prefers warm and humid climate and is mostly distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. It is widely cultivated in southern and central my country, mostly in the open field, and has a long history of cultivation, approximately more than 1,400 years. It also has many wild species, which can be found in Sichuan, Shandong, Taiwan, Jiangxi and other places. In addition, there are many cultivated varieties with diverse colors and beautiful shapes, which are very popular.

2. Can you survive in the north?

Camellia can also survive in the north. However, the climate environment in the northern region is not conducive to its growth, and it is much more difficult to cultivate, and the survival rate of open-field cultivation is low. Therefore, most people choose potted management. During the potted period, pay more attention to the soil, temperature, light, humidity, nutrients, etc., and provide a suitable environment for normal flowering.

3. Maintenance methods

1. Soil: It likes loose, well-drained sandy soil. When potted, you can mix garden soil, sand and peat soil. It is best to add a small amount of base fertilizer to increase nutrients, so as to meet its soil needs.

2. Temperature: The suitable temperature for growth is between 20-32 degrees. Be careful if it is too high or too low. Provide more ventilation in summer and move potted plants indoors in winter to avoid frostbite.

3. Light: It likes light and can be placed in the sun at ordinary times. Lack of light will affect its growth and cause poor growth. But strong light should be blocked and not exposed to direct sunlight.

4. Humidity: During the growing season, the soil in the pot should be kept moist, and water and spray water frequently to maintain humidity. But be careful not to overdo it and the soil should not be waterlogged.

5. Nutrients: Fertilize frequently during management, especially before flowering. A lot of nutrients are consumed during the flowering period and need to be replenished in time. Just choose phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer.
