Narcissus hydroponic cultivation methods and precautions

Narcissus hydroponic cultivation methods and precautions

Narcissus is a herbaceous plant with high ornamental value. The best choice for hydroponic narcissus is a relatively natural water source, such as well water, rain water or river water, snow water, and tap water needs to be placed in the sun for two or three days.

The environment should not be too dark, and the optimum temperature is 10~18℃. High and low temperatures have a great impact on its growth, making it prone to excessive growth and dwarfism.

Narcissus hydroponic method

1. Choose good flower balls

The flower ball should be visible to the naked eye, strong and full, with flower buds growing next to the main ball. The outer shell of the flower ball should be bright in color, with a dark brown outer membrane and wide scale patterns. Only then will the flower ball be strong and heavy.

It feels solid when you pinch it lightly with your fingers, and the bottom is concave. The larger the concave area, the more water the flower ball can store, which means there are more flower balls. This kind of flower ball is very good. If it cannot meet the requirements completely, at least you should have several.

2. Master the flowering time

The time from planting to flowering is closely related to temperature. In the north, it generally takes one and a half months for daffodils to bloom; in the south, the higher the temperature, the earlier they bloom, and they can bloom in one month.

If you want the daffodils to bloom within a certain period, you have to plant them one month or one and a half months in advance.

3. Carry out hydroponics

The resulting flower balls cannot be planted directly. First, you need to see the dry scales on the surface of the flower balls peel off, and then use a knife to cut a cross longitudinally on the top of the flower balls. Just like when cutting tomatoes, do not cut too deep to avoid damaging the flower buds, and then cut the scales well to facilitate the growth of the stems.

Soak the cut flower balls in clean water for two days, take them out, clean them, and put them in a container. If the container is the wrong size, you can use colored stones to fix the plant to prevent the plant from growing unstable, and slowly add clean water until the flower ball grows out from one-third of the way.

Precautions for hydroponic cultivation of daffodils

1. Water quality selection

The water used for hydroponics must not only be clean, but also good quality. It is recommended not to use tap water directly, but it is best to filter it. The best source for hydroponics of daffodils is a relatively natural water source, such as well water, rain water or river water, snow water.

Before the flowers bloom, the water can be changed every two days. When changing the water, it should be gentle to avoid damaging the roots. Since the bulbs of daffodils have the ability to store a large amount of nutrients, there is no need to apply fertilizer during the maintenance process.

2. Control the temperature

When the flowering period is long, the temperature needs to be taken into consideration. Both the ambient temperature and the water temperature will directly affect the flowering period. If the temperature is high and the daily sunlight is sufficient, the daffodils will bloom early.

3. Adequate lighting

Narcissus also has high requirements for sunlight. When growing it, it is best to let it bathe in sunlight every day. When there is no sun at night, we can put the flowers under the light. The breeding environment should not be too dark, otherwise even if it can bloom slowly, the flowers will become dim.
