Christmas cactus cutting method

First, prepare the branches

Choose branches with healthy and plump leaves, without missing leaves, withered leaves or shriveled leaves, about two to three or four leaves.

Before cutting, cut the branches, dry them, put them in a well-ventilated place, and dry them for more than a day. After the wound slowly heals, insert them. Therefore, it is not easy to rot after cutting and it is easier to grow roots.

Second, cutting medium and flower pot

The medium for cuttings, the soil for cuttings, whether it is peat, perlite, vermiculite, or river sand, must be loose and breathable. Breathability is very important. It is better to add more vermiculite, which is permeable and breathable, and not too wet. You can also put some cinder particles in the soil, which is also suitable for cutting Christmas cactus, or mix it with ordinary river sand.

The container flowerpot for cuttings must be guaranteed to have unobstructed drainage holes. The larger the drainage holes, the better. If there are no drainage holes, water will accumulate when you water it, and once water accumulates, the leaves and roots will rot, making it difficult for the cuttings to survive.

Third, cuttings

When taking cuttings, Christmas cactus can be inserted obliquely into the potting soil. In fact, you can also place the leaves directly on the soil surface. The soil medium can maintain a little moisture, but not be wet, and it can also take root.

After the roots grow, they can be replanted. No matter what kind of soil you use, it would be good to mix some granular soil, peat soil, or coal slag into it.

Precautions for cuttings of Christmas cactus

After the young branches are cut, be sure not to water them too much. It is better to keep them slightly dry but not damp. In short, if there is too much water in the soil, it will rot easily, and it will rot more easily if it is dry.

In short, the soil cannot be too wet. If it is too wet, a little more water will cause root rot. It is better to water less.
