When is the best time to repot succulent plants?

It is best to repot succulent plants in spring and autumn, when the temperature is suitable and the plants can quickly adapt to the new environment and resume growth. Moreover, these two seasons are also the growing seasons, when the plants grow well and can reduce damage.

The best season for repotting succulent plants

The time for repotting succulent plants is generally in spring and autumn . Because the temperature is too high in summer, the plants enter a dormant state, and it is not easy to survive the summer safely, let alone toss it at this time. Repotting at this time may not only fail to survive, but also affect its subsequent growth.

The temperature in winter is too low, and it is also difficult to adapt to the pot. However, for home planting, as long as the temperature is controlled well, the time requirement is not strict.

Precautions for repotting succulent plants

1. Choose a suitable flower pot

Succulent plants generally choose a flowerpot that is slightly larger than the previous one. Be sure to leave a small drainage hole in the pot. This can ensure the water permeability of the flowerpot and avoid water accumulation in the pot causing root rot.

2. Configure suitable soil

Succulent plants need soil with good air permeability to avoid waterlogging and root rot. Generally, a layer of ceramsite is laid at the bottom of the pot, followed by a layer of peat soil, and finally appropriate perlite.

3. Repotting operation

Don't water succulents before repotting to avoid soil sticking due to sufficient water, which may damage the roots. When doing this, hold the plant tightly with one hand and the pot with the other hand. Turn the pot upside down and gently remove the old pot. Carefully check the roots of the plant and cut off all the intricate root systems and old roots.

4. Dry the roots

Move the newly bought succulents out of the pot, being careful not to damage the leaves and taproots. Remove excess soil from the pot, and use a small brush to gently brush off the soil close to the roots.

Clean up the dead roots, rotten roots and overly long old roots. After trimming the roots, soak them in carbendazim for five to ten minutes, and then place them in a cool and ventilated place to dry.

5. Maintenance after repotting

After repotting, place the succulent plants in a semi-shaded balcony. Keep the soil slightly dry and slightly moist. Water them about once a week.

For plants whose roots have been damaged, they should not be watered during the acclimatization period. They can only be watered after roots grow again on the bottom leaves.
