Desert Rose cutting method and precautions How to propagate Desert Rose by cutting

The time for cutting Desert Rose is usually chosen in spring and summer. Choose 1-2 year old branches, preferably top branches. It is recommended to wash off the transparent latex in the stem flesh of Desert Rose with clean water. Then place it in a cool and ventilated place and wait until the incision heals before cutting.

Desert Rose Cutting Time

Desert rose is best propagated in spring and summer , especially in May and June, when the survival rate is the highest . Desert rose can be propagated in June and July in northern regions . If the temperature can be controlled at 25℃-30℃, it can survive at any time.

Desert Rose Cutting Method

1. Prepare the substrate

Desert rose is drought-resistant and prefers soil with strong air permeability and good drainage . You can choose river sand as the substrate for cuttings. After cleaning the river sand, expose it to the sun for 1-2 days and sterilize it for later use.

2. Select cuttings

Select healthy, strong branches that have grown for 1-2 years from the mother plant of Desert Rose that is growing vigorously. Cut 10-15cm with sterilized scissors, remove all the leaves at the base of the branches, and keep 1-2 tender leaves at the top. Cut the bottom of the branch into a 45° oblique cut with a knife, and make the top cut smooth. Soak it in the rooting water solution for 15-30 minutes, take it out and put it in a ventilated place to dry.

3. Cuttings

Prepare a container of suitable size, preferably a breathable clay pot. Fill the container with the cutting medium, smooth the soil with a spade, poke a few holes in the soil with a thin wooden stick, the holes are 5-7cm deep, insert the cuttings into the holes, and slightly compact the surrounding soil.

After cutting, spray water to keep the soil moist and place it in a place with scattered light for maintenance. Water regularly and control the temperature at around 25°C. It will take 20-30 days for the roots to take root and survive. After the growth is stable, it can be transplanted and planted.

Precautions for Desert Rose Cuttings

We must pay attention to whether the environment is well ventilated. If we find that the soil is too dry, we must spray water in time, so that it will take about half a month to take root and survive.
