Chrysanthemum cutting method and precautions How to make chrysanthemum cuttings have a high survival rate

Chrysanthemums are best propagated from cuttings in spring from March to May. Select strong, disease-free branches from chrysanthemum plants that are growing well, and keep 1-2 tender leaves on the top. Fill the clay pot with loose, well-drained soil. Insert the cuttings into the soil, water appropriately to keep the substrate moist, cover with film, and place it in the shade for maintenance.

Chrysanthemum cutting time

Chrysanthemum can be propagated by cuttings all year round , but in order to increase the survival rate of cuttings, it is best to do it in March-May . At this time, the temperature is suitable and the cuttings are easy to take root and survive. In the high temperature of midsummer, cuttings should be avoided as much as possible, otherwise it will easily affect the number of flowers.

How to propagate chrysanthemums by cuttings

1. Prepare the soil

Chrysanthemums like loose and well-drained soil. You can prepare peat soil and add a small amount of perlite, mix well and use it as culture soil.

2. Choose cuttings

On the chrysanthemum plants that are growing well, choose thick, disease-free and insect-free branches with a length of 10-20 cm, cut off the leaves at the lower part, keep 1-2 tender leaves at the top, cut off 1/2 of the leaves, cut the bottom of the branch into an oblique incision, apply carbendazim to the wound for disinfection and sterilization, and then place it in a ventilated place to dry.

3. Cuttings

Prepare a larger flower pot, clay pot or ceramic pot is best, put a tile at the bottom of the pot, fill it with culture soil, leave 2-3 cm space, smooth the soil, poke a few holes in the soil surface with chopsticks, insert the cuttings into the holes, and slightly compact the surrounding soil.

Precautions for chrysanthemum cuttings

After the cuttings are completed, the chrysanthemums must not be exposed to the sun in a hurry. First, they should be maintained in a semi-shaded and well-ventilated environment. Provide a warm environment and control the temperature between 15-25℃. If the soil is dry, spray water to keep it moist. If the environment is suitable, it will soon take root and survive. After the rooting is confirmed, slowly increase the light to promote the vigorous growth of the cuttings.
