Cultivation methods and precautions of small chrysanthemums Planting techniques of potted chrysanthemums

Chrysanthemum is easy to grow. It is very ornamental, with bright colors and a light fragrance, which is very suitable for potted cultivation at home. It is also highly adaptable, easy to reproduce, and grows fast, making it a flower suitable for novices to plant.

Planting technology of potted chrysanthemum

1. Selection of potting soil

Chrysanthemums prefer loose and humus-rich slightly acidic sandy soil . Generally, the soil is mixed with humus soil, garden soil, river sand, and organic fertilizer in a ratio of 2:2:1:0.5. The soil prepared in this way has strong air permeability and water permeability. Do not use garden soil that has been used to grow chrysanthemums. After the soil is prepared, if conditions permit, you can choose to use polychlorinated fungi to disinfect it before use.

2. Planting in pots

Planting chrysanthemums must be done in sunny weather. Spread coarse sand or gravel on the bottom of the pot to increase ventilation, and then fill it with prepared and disinfected potting soil. After planting the chrysanthemums, compact the soil surface with your hands and spread a layer of fine sand on the top to reduce the breeding of small flying insects in the pot.

How to grow chrysanthemums

1. Soil

Chrysanthemums have a very wide adaptability to soil and are more suitable for planting or growing in sandy loam soil that is rich in humus, well-drained and has good fertility . Note that the soil must be disinfected before use.

2. Lighting

Chrysanthemums prefer an environment with plenty of sunlight and cannot tolerate shade, so they need sufficient sunlight to promote the growth and flowering of the plant, but they should avoid direct sunlight around noon and the cold during the winter frost period .

3. Temperature

The most suitable temperature for the growth of chrysanthemums is 18-22 degrees , and the suitable temperature for flowering is 10-25 degrees . If the temperature is lower than 5 degrees, it will be damaged by frost. Therefore, when the outside temperature is too low, it needs to be moved indoors or kept warm. If it is higher than 25 degrees, the leaves of the chrysanthemum plants will increase, the flower stems will lengthen, and the number of flowers will decrease.

4. Watering

During the planting process of chrysanthemums, the frequency and amount of watering need to be changed according to seasonal changes. In summer , the evaporation effect is large, so water once in the morning and evening to keep the pot soil moist. In winter , water less frequently, once every 3 days or so .

5. Fertilization

Fertilization of chrysanthemums needs to be done regularly. Generally, compound fertilizer can be dissolved in water and watered every 2-3 weeks . It should be noted that fertilization should be stopped after the flowers bloom in February , and a thin nitrogen fertilizer should be applied once after the flowers fade in May .

Precautions for caring for small chrysanthemums

1. Watering principles

The principle of watering chrysanthemums is to water thoroughly when the soil is dry . However, if you accidentally water too much, you need to pour out the accumulated water in time to prevent root rot and re-configure new soil for planting. It is best to place it in a well-ventilated place after each watering to reduce water accumulation.

2. Pests and diseases

Common diseases of chrysanthemums include sclerotinia, gray mold, anthracnose, downy mildew, etc. , which can be controlled by spraying 50% chlorothalonil wettable powder and metalaxyl. The branches and leaves with diseases and insect pests should be cut off in time to avoid affecting the growth of healthy plants.
