What flowers and plants are suitable for ferrous sulfate and how to use it

What flowers are suitable for ferrous sulfate

In fact, based on my many years of experience and insights in growing flowers from the south in the northern regions, I believe that ferrous sulfate is generally suitable for flowers that prefer acidic soil, especially some potted southern flowers.

For example: flowers native to the south, such as white jasmine, osmanthus, Milan, camellia, azalea, gardenia, jasmine, etc., all prefer acidic soil.

When these flowers are grown in alkaline soil or watered with alkaline water, the leaves of the plants will turn yellow and fall off. In severe cases, the flowers may even die from exhaustion.

How to use ferrous sulfate

Due to years of watering and fertilizing, the acidic substances in the soil for growing flowers have weakened, causing the soil to become alkaline, compacted and less breathable, thus hindering the respiration of the flower roots.

Over time, the leaves will turn yellow, wilt and become weak, and in severe cases, they may even become scorched.

At this time, we can use 1% ferrous sulfate and put it into the dilute fertilizer. After stirring, we commonly call it "alum fertilizer water" and use it to water the flowers.

During the growth period of flowers, apply alum fertilizer water once every 10 days or so, and apply it 2 to 3 times in a row. The leaves of the plants will soon turn green. For flowers that do not like acidic soil, there is no need to apply ferrous sulfate frequently.

For example: roses, pomegranate trees, etc. that like neutral soil have dark green leaves. Although they sometimes show yellow leaves, they do not need to be watered with ferrous sulfate frequently. They can also grow dark green leaves and bright flowers.

In short, when growing southern flowers that prefer acidic soil in northern regions, the key to growing them well and making them bloom is to apply slightly acidic fertilizer and water.

Therefore, frequent watering, using alum fertilizer water mixed with ferrous sulfate and fermented cake fertilizer water, can make the leaves of flowers dark green, branches strong and flowers big, and grow strong. When using, take 1 part of the original solution, add 10-20 parts of clean water, and use it as foliar topdressing, preferably 1-2 times every half month .
