How to get the highest survival rate of osmanthus tree cuttings (the fastest way to root osmanthus cuttings)

When is the best time to take cuttings of osmanthus trees?

Our country is very large, and the climate varies greatly. In the spring, it is still snowing in the north, but we in Xiamen in the south are already wearing short sleeves because it is so hot. Therefore, you can see that the seasons written on paper are not standard.

Then we should take the temperature suitable for the growth of osmanthus as a reference and master the appropriate time for cutting. It is recommended that you can do cuttings when the temperature is between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius, and the survival rate is the highest.

How to make cuttings of osmanthus to achieve a high survival rate

First, cuttings

When choosing branches, it is best to choose semi-lignified branches that are 2 years old.

The length of the branches is about 10 to 15 cm, and the wound is trimmed into a 45° angle, smooth and without burrs. Dip the cuttings in red soil slurry mixed with rooting liquid containing "naphthaleneacetic acid".

Second, cutting planting material

The most commonly used cutting material is freshwater river sand, plus 1/3 honeycomb powder. This kind of planting material is fine and can fit the branches, and does not affect the air permeability and drainage. It is clean and sterile and will not infect the wound. Honeycomb powder needs to be soaked in water several times before use to remove the alkali.

Third, cutting details

First fill the flower pot with soil, then shake the flower pot gently to make sure there are no gaps between the soil layers. The amount of flower soil should be about 2 cm from the mouth of the flower pot. Plan the time for cuttings. Plant the branches in the same way as digging holes. The cutting depth should be about 3 cm.

After the cuttings are done, lightly press the soil in the pot and then water it thoroughly once.

Fourth, make a simple flower shed

Use bamboo strips or chopsticks as supports around the flower pot, and then put a transparent plastic bag on it to make a simple greenhouse. Make sure there are 5 to 8 small ventilation holes in the plastic bag.

Fifth, cutting management

1. First move the grafted osmanthus flower pot to a bright and well-ventilated location. The effect will be best if the environment is relatively humid.

After about a week, if the osmanthus leaves no longer turn yellow or dry, you can move it to a location with three hours of weak light.

2. Remove the bag and ventilate for 2 to 3 hours every three days, and spray to wet the leaves. When watering, water thoroughly when the surface color of the planting material becomes lighter. Water thoroughly when the soil is not dry.
