Can bayberry be propagated by cuttings?

Can bayberry be propagated by cuttings?

Bayberry is a sweet and sour juicy fruit. It has a certain distribution range in all parts of my country and is deeply loved by people. Generally, bayberry can be propagated by sowing, grafting, division, and cuttings.

Bayberry cutting propagation

Bayberry trees can be propagated by cuttings. Cutting propagation is quite common. The method is simple, easy to operate, and has a high survival rate. However, more attention should be paid to the cutting time and the selection of cuttings, otherwise it will affect the survival rate.

Bayberry cutting time

Bayberry is suitable for cuttings in the warm spring or around July every year. The temperature during these time periods is relatively suitable, and the rainfall is moderate. It is also in the growth period of bayberry, which promotes the rooting and sprouting of the plant.

Bayberry cutting propagation method

1. Processing cuttings: From a sturdy bayberry tree, select sturdy semi-lignified branches that are over one year old with buds on them and a length of 12-15 cm. After cutting, soak the branches in rooting solution for 12 hours. This will increase its survival rate and the rooting speed will be faster.

2. Soil preparation: Bayberry trees have a wide range of adaptability to soil, but the substrate used for cuttings should preferably be breathable and have strong water retention capacity. It is recommended to add more river sand to the garden soil to improve the air permeability and water retention capacity. After the soil is prepared, it must be disinfected to avoid residual insect eggs and bacteria.

3. Cutting method: After the bayberry branches are prepared, they can be cut. Insert the cuttings straight into the substrate, about one-third of the depth of the cuttings in the soil. After cutting, compact the surrounding substrate, and then water it thoroughly in time to provide a warm and well-ventilated environment.
