How to Plant Garlic Seeds

How to Plant Garlic Seeds

When planting garlic seeds, it is necessary to add nutrients to promote the healthy growth of garlic and improve its disease and insect resistance. For example, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, brassinolide, etc. can increase the germination rate and growth of seedlings.

Garlic seeds can start to germinate at 3℃-5℃, and germinate fastest at above 12℃. The most suitable temperature for garlic germination is 20℃. The temperature is different at different sowing periods. Therefore, the length of the germination period is closely related to the sowing period. Generally, the germination period of spring-sown garlic takes 7-10 days, while that of autumn-sown garlic takes 8-20 days.

Garlic Seed Planting Steps

When planting garlic seeds, dry them in the sun for 1-2 days to promote seed germination, but avoid high temperature exposure. Then soak the seeds in clean water for 10-12 hours and then put them in moist fine sand to germinate. After germination, you can sow them immediately.

Garlic Seed Planting Method

1. Furrow sowing method:

That is, first dig furrows according to the row spacing, then place the garlic cloves according to the plant spacing, and then cover with soil. This method is suitable for dry sowing or wet sowing. The furrow sowing method is more labor-intensive, and the depth and direction of the sown garlic cloves are not consistent.

2. Direct seeding method:

It is best to do it after the rain when the ground is moist, or to water the ground thoroughly first, then stand on the ridge, and according to the row and plant spacing requirements, directly insert the garlic cloves into the soft soil with your hands. There is no need to cover the soil after sowing.
