How and when to plant rapeseed

How and when to plant rapeseed

Before cultivating rapeseed, you should choose seeds with full grains and no insect pests. Then put the selected seeds in salt water for disinfection. The concentration of salt water can be 10%. Soak for about 5 minutes and stir, then rinse the seeds.

Rapeseed Planting Conditions

1. Soil conditions: Rapeseed is a taproot crop with a well-developed root system, deep main roots and many fine roots. It is suitable for planting in weakly acidic or neutral soils with deep soil layers, good structure, loose ventilation and rich organic matter.

2. Climate conditions: Rapeseed prefers a cool climate and is suitable for growing in a cool environment. The large temperature difference between day and night is more conducive to the germination and growth of rapeseed. Moreover, a cool climate can also increase the yield of rapeseed.

Rapeseed planting time

1. Planting time

Spring rapeseed: Spring rapeseed is generally planted in late April to May each year, and can be harvested in September of the same year. It is mainly concentrated in the Northeast and Northwest regions, and is more widely planted in Hailar, Mongolia.

Winter rapeseed: Winter rapeseed is generally planted in late September to October each year and harvested in May of the following year. It is mainly concentrated in the Yangtze River Basin, but it is necessary to distinguish between early, medium and late varieties. Medium and late varieties are best sown in late September to mid-October, and early varieties are best sown in mid-October to late October.

2. Rapeseed sowing method

Direct seeding: Direct seeding of rapeseed means sowing the seeds evenly on the prepared land and applied with sufficient base fertilizer. There are three main methods, namely broadcasting, spot seeding and row seeding. The sowing amount per mu is 0.8 kg.

Seedlings in seedbeds: Choose a plot of land that has not been planted with cruciferous crops and has fertile sandy soil. The seedbed area should be one mu of land for planting five mu of land, and the sowing rate per mu is 0.5 kg. Transplant to the field when the seeds have 6-7 leaves.

Rapeseed high-yield planting method

1. Management of the seedbed: Before sowing, apply enough base fertilizer to promote the leafing and seedling growth of rapeseed. Check the seedlings and fill in the gaps in time after transplanting. Before the winter solstice, combine tillage and weeding to build up the soil and cover the roots once.

2. Field management: Due to the tall size of rapeseed plants, it requires a relatively large amount of fertilizer. Attention should be paid to the amount of base fertilizer used. Organic fertilizer should be used for fertilization to achieve a better amount of fertilizer for the growth of rapeseed.

3. Water management: Soil drought is not conducive to planting, and it also has little effect on cultivating strong seedlings. Pay attention to the characteristics of rapeseed water requirements, adapt to local conditions, and carry out irrigation and drainage in a timely manner.
